Beach Cottage

If you don't like crowded, loud beach hotels, we recommend our isolated beach cottage on Playa Cacao, five minutes from Golfito. It is not a luxury home but a simple, open wooden house surrounded by 25 acres of jungle and only accessible by boat. It is the last house on the coast for miles. The garden with its palm trees, heliconias, hibiscus, and orchids attracts monkeys, parrots, toucans, coatis, racoons and many other animals. The virtually private, 500 meter long sand and pebble beach is reached by a short trail.  The two-story hut with open windows belongs to Michael Schnitzler, owner of Esquinas Rainforest Lodge. The living-kitchen area is equipped with refrigerator, electric stove, oven, and kitchen appliances and opens onto a covered veranda with hammocks. Rainwater tanks feed the hot-water shower and flush-toilet. A housekeeper lives on the property. The second floor has two queen beds separated by a wall, and an open balcony with spectacular views of  Golfo Dulce and the Osa Peninsula. The downstairs living area has two additional beds.
